Vitamins for chronic disease prevention in adults: scientific review
JAMA (2002), Fairfield KM & Fletcher RH
Daily Multivitamin delivers 37 medicinal ingredients per 2 tablet dose 10 vitamins, 15 minerals and trace minerals, and 12 plant extracts, amino acids, and accessory nutrients.
Vitamin A (palmitate) 450 mcg RAE (1,500 IU), Vitamin B1 (thiamine mononitrate) 2.25 mg, Vitamin B2 (riboflavin-5-phosphate) 3.2 mg, Vitamin B3 (niacin) 30 mg, Vitamin B5 (calcium-d-pantothenate) 15 mg, Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl) 5 mg, Folic Acid 500 mcg, Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) 15 mcg, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 100 mg, Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) 10 mcg (400 IU), Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopheryl succinate) 15 IU
Calcium (carbonate) 150 mg, Phosphorus (dicalcium phosphate) 125 mg, Magnesium (oxide) 75 mg, Potassium (chloride) 40 mg, Iron (fumarate) 10 mg, Zinc (citrate) 15 mg, Manganese (citrate) 3 mg, Copper (citrate) 1 mg, Molybdenum (sodium molybdate) 125 mcg, Selenium (sodium selenite) 25 mcg, Chromium (chloride) 30 mcg, Vanadium (citrate) 15 mcg, Nickel (sulfate) 5 mcg, Silicon (dioxide) 10 mcg, Tin (stannous chloride) 10 mcg
Choline (bitartrate) 30 mg, PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) 25 mg, Citrus bioflavonoid (Citrus aurantium, fruit) 25 mg, Betaine HCl 25 mg, Rose hip dried powder (fruit) 15 mg, Kelp (Laminaria digitata, whole) 15 mg, Inositol (dihydrate) 15 mg, L-methionine 15 mg, L-glutamic acid 15 mg, Rutin (Sophora japonica, flower) 5 mg, Lutein (marigold flower) 100 mcg
Chromium (30 mcg, as chromium chloride) is the mineral associated with the licensed use “helps to maintain normal blood glucose levels” and is involved in insulin signalling and glucose metabolism. Lutein (100 mcg from marigold flower) is the carotenoid associated with the licensed use “helps to maintain eyesight.” This formula includes ultra-trace minerals not commonly found in basic multivitamins: Vanadium (15 mcg), Nickel (5 mcg), Silicon (10 mcg), and Tin (10 mcg). Iron is included at 10 mg as iron fumarate.
A 37-ingredient formula requires more tablet mass than a single tablet can hold while maintaining appropriate doses of each nutrient. Both tablets should be taken together with food as a single daily dose. Taking with food improves absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D3, E) and reduces the chance of gastrointestinal discomfort from iron and other minerals on an empty stomach.
