What Is Gelatinized Maca?

Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root vegetable native to the high Andes of Peru, grown at altitudes of 4,000 to 4,500 metres above sea level. It is a member of the Brassicaceae family, the same plant family as broccoli, cabbage, and radish. The part used in this formula is the hypocotyl, the swollen underground stem that is commonly called the root.

Gelatinization is a processing method where raw maca is cooked under pressure to remove the starch content. Raw maca contains significant starch that can cause digestive discomfort in some people. Gelatinized maca has this starch removed, which improves digestibility and concentrates the active compounds relative to the raw weight. This formula uses a 4:1 concentrated extract of gelatinized maca hypocotyl: 4 parts raw maca were used to produce 1 part extract. Each capsule contains 200mg of 4:1 extract, equivalent to 800mg of raw maca hypocotyl (QCE 800mg). Each 2-capsule dose provides 400mg of extract, equivalent to 1,600mg of raw maca (QCE 1,600mg).

What Is Panax Ginseng?
