L-Ergothioneine 30 mg provides a naturally occurring compound studied for its antioxidant properties in a convenient vegetable capsule. Each capsule contains 30 mg of ergothioneine as the sole medicinal ingredient. The focused formulation offers a clearly defined amount for those interested in ergothioneine and antioxidant nutrition.

Ergothioneine and Antioxidant Science

L-ergothioneine is a sulphur-containing derivative of the amino acid histidine. It occurs in foods including mushrooms and is being investigated for its antioxidant chemistry and role in human physiology.

Antioxidant research examines how compounds interact with reactive molecules involved in oxidation. Ergothioneine has attracted scientific interest in this field, with ongoing studies exploring its biological activity.

A Focused Formulation

Ergothioneine is the only medicinal ingredient. This is an individual ergothioneine supplement, not a multivitamin or mixed mushroom formula. Its clearly stated composition allows the ingredient amount to be identified separately within a supplement routine.

Clinical Research

Administration of Pure Ergothioneine to Healthy Human Subjects: Uptake, Metabolism, and Effects on Biomarkers of Oxidative Damage and Inflammation

Antioxidants & Redox Signaling, 2017

This human supplementation study investigated how oral L-ergothioneine is absorbed, retained, and metabolized. Supplementation significantly increased plasma and whole-blood ergothioneine concentrations, with relatively little excreted in urine. Several oxidative-damage and inflammatory markers showed downward trends, but most changes were not statistically significant. The study supports oral uptake and retention more strongly than demonstrated antioxidant health benefits.

The efficacy of ergothioneine to delay cognitive decline in mild cognitively impaired subjects: A pilot study

Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, 2024

In a double blind, randomized, placebo controlled pilot study, 19 adults aged 60 or older with mild cognitive impairment received 25 mg of ergothioneine three times weekly or placebo for one year. The supplemented group showed improved performance on a learning assessment and stable levels of neurofilament light chain, a marker associated with neuronal injury. Blood counts and measured kidney and liver safety markers were unchanged. The small sample makes these findings exploratory, not proof of dementia prevention or broad cellular health benefits.

Effects of an ergothioneine-rich Pleurotus sp. on skin moisturizing functions and facial conditions: a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial

Frontiers in Medicine, 2024

In a 12 week randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial, 80 healthy women received an ergothioneine rich mushroom preparation providing 25 mg of ergothioneine daily or placebo. The supplemented group had significantly higher temple skin moisture at eight weeks and better facial wrinkle and texture scores at 12 weeks compared with placebo. Plasma ergothioneine levels increased approximately 4.7 fold from baseline. These findings suggest potential skin health benefits from the studied preparation, but other mushroom components may have contributed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is L-Ergothioneine 30mg?

L-Ergothioneine is a naturally occurring sulfur-containing amino acid derivative found in certain foods, especially mushrooms. This formula provides 30 mg of L-Ergothioneine per specified serving.

What is L-Ergothioneine used for?

L-Ergothioneine is commonly used to support cellular health, antioxidant protection, and healthy aging by helping protect cells from oxidative stress.

Is L-Ergothioneine an antioxidant?

Yes. L-Ergothioneine has antioxidant properties and is studied for its ability to help protect cells and cellular components from oxidative damage.

How does L-Ergothioneine support cellular health?

L-Ergothioneine can accumulate in certain tissues through a specialized transporter and may help support the body's natural defenses against oxidative stress at the cellular level.

Why is L-Ergothioneine associated with healthy aging?

Oxidative stress can increase with age. Because L-Ergothioneine functions as an antioxidant and is retained in certain tissues, it is being studied for its potential role in cellular resilience and healthy aging.
